Hoodia is generally referred to as a cactus. It is cactus like in appearance but actually a succulent. The Hoodia plant is native to Southern Africa and in particular the Kalahari Dessert Region, where a dozen species of the plant thrive and co exist in the arid climate. It is only one variety of the plant, Hoodia Gordonii that has any appetite suppressing and consequential weight loss properties.
Hoodia Gordonii is one of the thirteen types of Hoodia but is the only with p57, a glycoside which curbs appetite. It is important that you examine the labels well before you even think of getting one. There are companies which have no qualms in marketing Hoodia as authentic despite the fact that most of it contains 60% of Hoodia only just like if it is an extract.
In the labels, the list of ingredients should only include hoodia gordonii, gelatine, stearic acid and magnesium stearate. The last three ingredients compose the capsule where the 100% pure hoodia gordonii powder is stored.
